This season mixed patterns are so very trendy and I'm so very excited to sport the look! I know it can seem overwhelming at first because it requires some thought and arises questions, but its really quite easy to accomplish this trend! Below are some easy tips on mixing patterns and prints to help you get on trend too!
Tip 1: Have one neutral in the mix. It can still be a print, but to avoid looking tacky or too over the top, stick with one article of clothing as a neutral. Think black/navy/white/gray/denim. For example, my neutral in the pictures is my skirt- still a pattern, but neutral colors. Tip 2: DO add color. Just make sure the colors in the outfit are complimentary. While I say above to have one neutral- don't be afraid of some color! Just pair your colorful/bold piece with something neutral to offset the potential of too much color and pick color schemes that are in sync. My color in this look is (obviously) the pink silk blazer and matches the black and white in the skirt and colors in the shoes. Tip 3: Stick to 2 patterns max. Keep the look focused by only having 2 patterns in the mix. Anything more than 2 can look messy. For example, in my look I have my bold color as the blazer, my neutral and pattern 1 in the skirt, and pattern 2 in the floral shoes. Tip 3: Don't mix same pattern/print sizes. To be clear- don't mix large stripes with large floral print. Mix small stripes with large floral print, or large stripes with small floral print. Having both the same size print throws off the balance of the look. Tip 4: DO use accessories or shoes in the mix. If you are too worried about mixing prints with your clothing, use shoes or accessories as a more subdued way to still wear the trend. Try wearing a patterned blazer with a neutral dress or jeans and different patterned shoes! Or like in my look, I opted for a patterned skirt with patterned flats. Use belts, scarves, or handbags to accomplish this look too! Tip 5: Experiment! The mixed patterned trend doesn't have to be solely stripes and florals. In addition to stripes and florals, look for polka dots, plaids, tribal prints, lace, leopard, gingham, tweed, etc.
