Today's post is dedicated to reader Heather, who requested a blog entry on looking good for a day at the pool. The timing for this request was perfect since pool season is here and here to stay for the next few months! Whether its a pool party or just a relaxed afternoon soaking in the sun, below are a few tips for looking good for a day at the pool.
1. A statement cover up
Make an entrance at the pool with a statement cover up like the one pictured here. Especially if you're at a pool party, a cover up like this is great to wear in between dips in the pool and will look great in pictures. The linen material is semi sheer, adding a flirtatious look without being over the top. The best part of this? Its only $22.90 at Forever 21!
2. Fun sunnies
Fun sunglasses are a staple for a day at the pool! I'm loving on the cat eye look right now and think they bring a playful and fun vibe! These cat eye sunnies (also seen in my June Style Pick) are only $5 from Sunglass Spot!
3. Hot pink lips
I normally forego makeup at the pool- except for lipstick. What better way to still look put together and brighten your face than with a hot pink lip at the pool? A lip stain like Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick will stay put with continuous wear for hours and you can layer a chap stick on top for SPF. Too Faced Melted Lip Stick, $21 at Sephora.
4. & 5. Accessories
Adding some accessories like a large wrist bangle that can be easily removed for when you go in the water, or dangly earrings you don't have to take off in the water if you aren't planning to get your head wet, are quick and easy ways to add some style to your pool look.
6. The wide brim hat
This is a must. Not only will a hat shield your face and shoulders from the sun at peak times, but it is a classic look that adds instant sophistication. $12.30 from Amazon.
7. CeraVe Sunscreen
I love love love this stuff! Sunscreen is a must while out in the sun- no one wants to look like a lobster later! You can find CeraVe at most drugstores.
8. Chic Sandals
Trade your flip flops for some bright or embellished t-strap, slides, gladiator, or footbed sandals for a chicer look. I got these at Marshalls, but look at these super cute Sam & Libby slides from Target.
9. Canvas Tote
I got this one as a gift from Sephora and use it all the time for the pool or beach. Having a dark colored tote won't show dirt or water stains that can be picked up from the pool.
10. A towel (obvi!)
I love bright colored towels. For one, you always know which one is yours and can easily pick your chair out of a crowd if the pool is packed, and 2. a towel is a staple at the pool, so you may as well have a cute one! Towel from Costco, $12. Or, check out this flamingo towel from Forever 21 for only $10.90.
Happy Pool-ing!
