She Was an American Girl

Its the Fourth of July weekend in DC! That means fireworks, parades, an influx of American Flags, and patriotic vibes. As you may have seen in one of my previous posts, I recently teamed with StyleBlend online magazine as a Contributing Writer. My first article for the magazine, July 4th in Our Nation's Capital , is a guide to spending the weekend in DC. While this article is aimed at tourists visiting DC, I wanted to pull out some key highlights for all you local Washingtonian's if you're looking for some fun things to do the 4th!

The most important thing to do on the 4th is to watch the fireworks, no where else does fireworks like DC on the 4th! Since the fireworks show doesn't start until around 9:15pm, you have all day to celebrate the holiday.

July 4 by Day:

Attend the Nationals Game and go to Bluejacket Brewery or Cantina Marina after for some post game drinks. Craving music? Head to RFK Stadium for the Foo Fighters 20th Anniversary Independence Day Concert with other musical guests like LL Cool J, and more. If you're feeling super patriotic, partake in the DC Independence Day Parade down Constitution Ave. Not feeling the crowds? Head to an Independence Day brunch at one of the Richard Sandoval restaurants, Masa 14 or Zengo, where brunch is offered all weekend in celebration for the holiday.

July 4 by Night:

The fireworks are a must. Obviously, the best and most traditional place to watch the fireworks is on the National Mall. This option is very crowded, but definitely worth experiencing if you haven't already been. If you want to grab a seat on the mall, head there early with a blanket and picnic and listen to the A Capitol Fourth Concert which leads to the fireworks.

Not keen on heading to the mall to watch the fireworks? Other great locations (and less crowded options) to watch the fireworks are by boat or rooftop. By boat, look into the Boomerang Boat evening cruise and enjoy a boat party from the Potomac River. From a rooftop, attend the Independence Day Silent Disco & Fireworks Party on the Embassy Row Hotel Rooftop. There are also rooftop bars hosting non-ticket events such as The Brixton

and Jack Rose.

What to Wear:

Red, White, and Blue, of course!

I put together my 4th of July look in advance for this post, courtesy of mostly Nordstrom Rack finds! Look to incorporate red, white, and blue to your look through accessories like handbags and shoes, apparel that incorporates these colors (like my printed caftan dress), or makeup such as red lips or blue eyeliner!

Embellished Gladiator Sandals: Tory Burch from Nordstrom Rack

Red Handbag: Kate Spade New York from Nordstrom Rack

Have a Safe and Happy 4th!

XOXO
