Its no surprise we are currently in a heat wave in DC. What gave that away? Oh, I don't know, maybe the awful feeling of humidity and stickiness that slaps you in the face as soon as you step outside. Seriously, this weather is borderline miserable, but thanks to the National Building Museum, you can now escape the heat this summer and pretend you are in ice cold waters at the new ICEBERGS art installation.

Last year the National Building Museum made waves with the BEACH installation that drew masses of people out to feel nostalgic playing in essentially an awesome, huge ball pit. This year, the museum has moved from the shore to the water in ICEBERGS, commissioned by James Corner Field Operations group, who is also the mastermind behind the New York High Line.
Being a huge National Building Museum fan, I was eager to check out ICEBERGS and attended the kick-off of the Late Night series last Wednesday night with my creative arts friend, Hannah. The concept behind ICEBERGS is to make you feel as if you are in the underwater world of glacial ice waters, and the feeling is exactly that. Upon entering the exhibit I had a sense of wonder and awe as I walked through the various sized icebergs looking in all directions as each view offered something different. The fact we were there at night also brought an even better view as the icebergs were lit up and blue, giving a cool underwater feel (Yea, I know icebergs aren't normally lit up- we've all seen Titanic, but trust me when I say its really cool and you'll get what I mean when you see it). Not only is the installation awesome to look at, its a prime spot for all you Instagrammers and Snapchatters, and even has a slide in one of the glaciers (hello, Boomerang!) and a viewing area where you can take stairs to the peak and see the exhibit from above (hello, selfies!). Once you've explored the underwater aspect and rode down the slide like 10 times, head to the second floor of the museum to check out the views of the installation from above and get a feel of how the icebergs look from the top of the water to under the water for a more holistic view.
ICEBERGS is now on display at the National Building Museum until September 5 daily. After seeing the installation in the light and the dark, I definitely recommend attending the Late Night series on Wednesday nights from 6-10pm, for the best of both worlds. Get there early to see the installation while its still light out and stay until it gets dark to see the installation in an even better setting- trust me, its the way to go! Plus the Late Night series features live music, drinks, bites from local DC restaurants, and entrance into the other exhibits!
