Lady in Red

With summer nearing its end, I've been doing a bit of a closet revamp and going through my closet picking out summery pieces I haven't worn much this summer and adding them to my outfits to wear list. Since there's only a little bit of summer left, I want to be sure I get my last chances to wear these pieces before I pack them away for fall.

In doing so, I came across this red and white print skirt that I have legit had for about 10 years. Yes, 10 years! I bought this skirt at Bebe and used to wear it all the time, but in recent years I didn't wear it much fearing it looked a little dated. Since I always liked the skirt, I've held onto it hoping to bring it back out for some wears. I decided to break this skirt out for the DC Goodwill Summer Trunk Show VIP Party last week.

I attended the VIP party with Roxanne to support our fellow blogger friends, Vivi, Brea, and Alison, who were selected by Goodwill to search Goodwill stores across the DMV for their favorite vintage and contemporary pieces. Their picks were then displayed in the summer trunk show with all proceeds from the shopping event going to people with disabilities and disadvantages in our community urgently in need of clothing. Not being a huge thrifter myself, I was very surprised at the amount of awesome clothing that were on the racks, especially some of the vintage pieces, and the prices were soooo affordable!

Since the event was geared around some vintage finds, I thought this would be a great venue to wear my 10 year old Bebe skirt (even though its not technically vintage). Especially since a lot of thrifting is finding pieces and translating them into your wardrobe for modern day wear, I decided to keep the theme and rock my 10 year old skirt with a more modern off the shoulder top and bright wedges to pull the look together. Before the event, Roxanne and I met for outfit pictures and to have a quick catch-up session before shopping at the VIP party. We walked the block and found this painted brick wall and decided it would make a perfect backdrop. I was also amused by the "Little Miss Psycho" street graffiti so I decided to use the humorous words as a backdrop for some of my shots. Shout out to the fab Glass of Glam Roxanne for these fun pictures!
