Makeup Monday: LipSense - Life & Lips by McKenna

A lipstick that has 18+ hour staying power and is completely smudge-proof? Yea, that peaked my interest, too. I had heard of LipSense randomly through Instagram, and thanks to Life and Lips by McKenna, I recently had the opportunity of testing this product out for myself.

I'm totally a lipstick person. If I could only wear one makeup product for the rest of my life, it would 100% be lipstick. A touch of lipstick is the perfect way to perk up your face and look completely put together. There is barely a time when I step foot outside my apartment without some sort of lip stick/gloss/tint on my lips, and because of this I am always on the hunt for a good long-wear product. I was excited to try the LipSense to see how it really worked.

The LipSense Starter Kit

The kit is delivered the first time with the lip color (there are over 50 shades to choose from!), the gloss, and a remover. This stuff is so potent it legit needs its own remover- so I know it was going to be good. Included in the kit are a list of directions and tips for application. McKenna also gave me a few tips as well- the main tips were to be prepared for your lips to tingle with the first few applications and that the gloss is your best friend.

During the first application, I followed the steps closely- I applied the color to my clean lips in one swipe, let dry 10 seconds, then coated again. I did feel the tingling, but it wasn't anything bad and lasted a very short time. I only applied 3 coats the first time to see how the color finished, then I coated with the gloss. I was instantly surprised at the vibrancy of the color and I tried rubbing my lips and to my surprise, the lip color never once moved! I was so impressed!

After the first go round, I tried the product a few more times to perfect the application, because you truly do need to try it a few times to really get a feel for it. The second time I tried it, I stupidly pressed my lips together before I applied the gloss....and I ruined the application. Another time, I forgot my gloss at home and the color was drying and cracked a bit. These were both lessons learned and I soon became a pro at applying the color.

Wearing LipSense Party Pink

When I apply the color now, I apply in a single swipe on both my bottom and top lip, taking my time- this product isn't something you apply in a rush. I now apply about 5-6 coats for a more vibrant color and I know to never ever let my lips touch during application. I take my gloss with me everywhere and I re-apply every 3 hours or so, to help hydrate my lips and revive the color.

The pro's of this are exactly what I've stated before- long wear (I fell asleep with it on after a night out, and the next morning it was still completely intact), vibrant color- I chose Party Pink as my first and I love it, and its smudge-proof design- this does not move from your lips what-so-ever. The price point is also affordable and the starter kit costs $55, which includes a color, a gloss, and remover. The only con of this item, is the removal process. You have to use its associated removal gel and it does take a few tries to fully remove the product from your lips- BUT at the same time, this stuff is packing on some serious long wear power, so it makes sense its harder to remove. I even tried to use another remover, just to try, and it didn't budge.

LipSense Party Pink

I find this product to be worth ordering and checking out. I love to use this for times when I know I'll be out and about or at events that I won't have time to touch up my makeup. I think this lipstick is also going to be perfect for the upcoming summer months, since you won't have to worry about the color running off your lips in the heat. Also- this will be a must at pool parties!
